It’s a Win Win for Kelowna band FIELDS OF GREEN and Rally4Life
FIELDS OF GREEN partners with Rally4Life Charity to hold “Stoves for Life” fundraiser Concert on Oct 17th at the Rotary Centre for the Arts
After having just out performed more than 300 other bands to win the renowned Fox Seeds competition in Vancouver, local Indie band FIELDS OF GREEN are among the favorites to repeat their winning ways in the prestigious Peak Performance Project. With $102,700 up for grabs there is plenty of motivation and one of the most important components of the demanding competition involves hosting a successful fundraising event. That is why the band has chosen to work with local Charity Rally4Life who have just had a Guinness World Record confirmed for their Advocates Flight4Life project. They completed the longest powered paraglider journey at 8,215 km around Australia to raise money for children dying from unsafe drinking water and inadequate sanitation.
On Oct 17th, FIELDS OF GREEN will be headlining a concert event to raise money for a Stove project, based in Guatemala. In that impoverished country one in five children dies before the age of five, largely due to respiratory illness caused by unsafe family cooking stoves. Working with charity partners FeViva, a safe, efficient stove has been developed that will greatly reduce this horrific infant mortality rate.

“We hope to create some synergy” says Rally4Life President, Jackie Jenning-Bates. “My kids went to school with the band members and I have been a long-time fan. I am so thrilled about all that is happening for them at the moment and feel very honoured that they have chosen to work with us. If we can help create some momentum and co-host a hugely successful event with them it will go a long way towards helping their chances in the Peak Performance, and the biggest winners will be the children in Guatemala. I really look forward to Kelowna coming out in droves to support this
talented young band.”
Johnny Jansen, drummer with the band, has twice been to the rural region of Guatemala that will benefit and the children there have stolen his heart. “It adds so much real meaning to this event because I have seen first-hand how hard life is there. 70% of the population struggle to survive on less than $2 a day, and really in comparison we have so much. It really is a privilege to be in a position to help.”
Meanwhile FIELDS OF GREEN will soon set off on a whirlwind tour with Juno winning band The Arkells as part of the prize package from the Fox Seeds competition. They are well on their way to success, so make sure you come and see them while you still have the opportunity. The evening will also include performances by the Bjorn Kriel Band and Van Damsel. Fundraising Concert at the Mary Irwin Theatre, Rotary Centre for the Arts, Kelowna. Wednesday October 17th, 7:30pm. Entry by donation.
